There’s been lots in the press this week about the dreaded ‘January blues’ and how they tend to peak for many last Monday as people start to give up on their New Year’s resolutions, have no money after Christmas, the weather is dark and grey etc. etc.
Personally, I think a lot of it is media hype (don’t listen people!) however, I can understand why the month of January may feel more than a little dreary and uninspiring.
For me, it’s a quiet time of year work-wise as I don’t conduct personal shops in January (I HATE the sales!) but it also gives me a little headspace to catch up on my admin and get my ducks in a row before my busy Spring/Summer season kicks off in a few weeks. So I quite like easing into the year at this slightly slower pace, knowing full week that all too soon I’ll be running around the shops and decluttering wardrobes like a woman possessed!
This week on the blog I thought I’d share some of my top colour tips so that if you are feeling a little blue at the moment you can dress yourself happy again with a few Winter brights!
Don't underestimate the power a great outfit can have on your mood. A fabulous colour, the perfect fit or a beautiful accessory will have you smiling all day long and walking that little bit taller.
There is scientific proof that certain colours can impact both your own mood and the vibe/emotions you convey to others when you wear them…
RED – strength, warmth, energy and confidence. This is a great colour if you are going into a situation where you want to grab people’s attention or make sure they remember you.
BLUE – calm, efficiency, intelligence, communication and trust. A real nurturing colour. If you need to have a super-productive day or maybe you’re feeling a little stressed, choose blue to calm you.
YELLOW – optimism, confidence, friendliness. If you’re feeling low on self-esteem then wear something yellow to give you a little boost. One of my personal favourite colours, the right yellow will lift our spirits and our self-esteem; it is the colour of confidence and optimism.
ORANGE – sensuality, passion and fun. If your mood is low then wearing orange should give you a boost!
GREEN – this colour reminds me of my son as he loves green, it is one of my favourites too. It communicates harmony, balance and universal love – if you’re stuck in an office all day then wearing green will make you feel more connected to the environment outside.
