Spring may not officially be here yet but with the recent flurry of bright, sunny days, I’m certainly looking ahead to warmer days.
Dressing between seasons can often pose a bit of a challenge; it’s sunny, but it’s cold, you’re over your Winter wardrobe but it’s not yet time to bust out the lightweight dresses.
Here are three simple ways to update your wardrobe in preparation for Spring to see you through the last of the chilly days…
OPT FOR LIGHTER/BRIGHTER COLOURS
The exact shades you choose (and how to combine them) will differ depending on your dominant colour category but colour can have a huge impact on the overall feel of your outfit.
If you don’t already won one, then a coat or jacket in one of your lighter neutral shades will instantly lighten your look and provide a versatile staple well into Spring.
Taupe, Stone and Cocoa shades are all versatile neutral shades that suit most skin tones.
Once you have your outerwear sorted you can set about mixing and matching some brighter knitwear pieces to really bring the Spring sunshine to your outfits.
I love this orange jumper from Mint Velvet combined with blue jeans to give a Spring-like feel whilst staying warm and cosy!
GET A SHACKET
No Spring wardrobe is complete without a shacket (as cross between a shirt and a jacket).
I have a few in my wardrobe that I’ve collected over the years – a denim one is great to wear over trousers, dresses and skirts whilst something in a neutral shade (khaki, navy, charcoal or taupe are all great options) will work well when you’re wearing jeans.
My latest addition was this version from WAT The Brand which looks great with a simple white tee, jeans and trainers but also works with a lightweight knit if the weather is still cool.
Shackets tend to have quite a relaxed silhouette so I like to style them over a fitted outfit to ensure they don’t hide the figure or bulk you out too much.
If you’re petite just size down to ensure you don’t get swamped by this style.
THINK ABOUT YOUR FOOTWEAR
We’re entering trainer season!
You’ll know by now that my trainer selection is extensive and varied – I live in trainers and particularly love Air & Grace as well as New Balance 327s.
It’s not just trainers that will give a Spring-feel to your look through, loafers and boots in lighter neutral shades are also great (I’ll be sharing an edit over in my LTK shop shortly to give y0u some ideas).
Showing a little ankle is also great to ease you out of Winter-mode, roll up the hems of your jeans to just about the ankle bone, exposing a little glimpse of skin and flattering the lower leg in the process. Win/win!
