This year I am planning on getting glam for Christmas Day – we may not be leaving the living room but it’s something we do every year and gives the day the sense of occasion it rightfully deserves.
For this week’s post I’ve picked out some of my favourite pieces to wear for Christmas Day (& beyond) from luxe loungewear to laid-back glamour, there’s something here for everyone…
I think the key to Christmas Day dressing is putting comfort at the top of your priority list when selecting what to wear.
For a day that involves lots of food, lots of running around entertaining little ones (as well as adults), possibly preparing food as well as unwrapping presents and general merriment, you have to be practical to a certain extent – that doesn’t mean we have to forgo the festive glamour though!
Luxe Loungewear
If getting ‘dressed up’ just isn’t your idea of fun then a beautiful loungewear set might be the way to go.
Wyse London are the epitome of laid-back glamour and take loungewear to the next level with their stunning range. What I love about this set (pictured right) is that both the top and bottoms can be styled individually way past Christmas to create some gorgeous outfits that you can wear again and again.
Fabulous Footwear
No outfit is complete without a great pair of shoes, but when you’re not leaving the house it can be tempting to just shove on your slippers – don’t!!
Instead, opt for footwear that is easy to slip on and off but still add a touch of sophistication to your overall look. This type of shoe is a great addition to any wardrobe as they’re ideal for when you’re hosting (or attending) dinner parties too, so you will get wear out of them beyond the 25th December.
I love Vita Grace or their embellished, bejewelled and detailed footwear – all of which are either flat or have a low kitten heel. They’re the perfect item to elevate the simplest of outfits, so even if you’re a jeans and tee kinda girl you can still bring a little glam and elevate your overall look.
I particularly love this pair of Embellished Pearl Mules.
Sparkly Separates
I generally opt for a skirt and top combination of some sort on Christmas day (last year’s outfit pictured left) as I find them the most comfortable – it also means I can go for an elasticated waist band on my lower half to allow me to indulge in that big Christmas dinner!
A sparkly top has got to be an essential addition to anyone’s wardrobe for this time of year – buy well and due to the fact it won’t get much wear, it will last you for ages (mine is from Katie & May but there are plenty of similar styles at H&M, Zara, Whistles etc.)
All Dressed Up
If you prefer the ease of a dress then consider your fabric very carefully – anything too tight just won’t be comfortable for a day when you’re going to spend the majority of the time sitting down.
Looks for dresses that have a lycra mix or that are in a jersey fabric with some stretch, alternatively you could opt for a style that is more fluid and isn’t fitted around the waist. Consider the length of dress you choose too, shorter styles will ride up when you sit down so mid-length or longer is generally a safer bet so you can truly relax.
I think this year more than ever, we all need a little light relief during the festive season so my advice to you would be to have a little fun with your Christmas Day outfit this year – go all-out and enjoy getting dressed up with a glass of bubbles, we’ve made it through 2020 ladies, that in itself deserves a celebration!!
Until next time,
Anna xo
