A Styling Session Should Be Top Of Your A/W Shopping List

Now I know I’m a little biased in this area BUT before you embark on your Autumn/Winter shopping trip have a little think about booking in with a personal stylist first.

In a world where we are fed trends, not just seasonally anymore, but constantly, it can easily feel like we should constantly be buying the latest bag/boots/coat/jeans, updating our ‘look’ and evolving our style.

In this fast-paced world of fashion it is so easy to feel overwhelmed.

With a wardrobe crammed full of clothes (only 20% of which we actually wear) but no clue of where to start in trying to style it all into different outfits and that dreaded feeling that in order to have something to wear for that next event/holiday/interview we need to buy something else, we’re left feeling inspired after yet another panic buy.

I believe it is no coincidence that ‘slow fashion’ and sustainable style are becoming more prevalent within the fashion industry. Not only are we becoming more aware of the environmental impact fast fashion is having, we’re feeling overwhelmed and are craving a slower, simpler approach.

There are a plethora of sustainable style challenges popping up on social media now and I’m a huge fan of them all. From ensuring you’re going to get 30 wears out of an item before buying it, through to only buying pre-loved clothes or committing to wearing everything you own at least once before purchasing anything new; they’re all fantastic ways to encourage us to be more creative in our approach to style and more mindful about our buying habits.

So if we want to simplify, buy less and wear more of what we already own, why on earth would a personal stylist be needed?

My view is that in the long run, a personal stylist will save you hundreds (possibly even thousands) of pounds because you are SO much more savvy with your clothes purchases.

Here are just a few examples of how a personal stylist can help you save a small fortune in the long run…

No more repeat purchases

How often have you returned home from a shopping trip with a gorgeous new breton top/grey tshirt/cream jumper only to find that you have 5 other almost identical items languishing at the bottom your wardrobe?

A wardrobe audit will stop this from happening ever again as not only will you have been through everything you own with a fine tooth comb, so you know EXACTLY what you have, it will also be organised in such a way so as to ensure you can see all your clothes, so nothing gets forgotten.

No more colour corrections

Seen a fabulous jumper on Instagram and dashed out to buy it, only to be asked repeatedly whether you’re tired/unwell upon the first time you wear it?

A colour consultation will ensure that you have a detailed understanding of which colours work for you and why, how to combine them AND which colours to avoid or wear in certain ways to ensure your skin glows and your eyes sparkle. So next time you see the ‘must have’ grey jumper, you’ll opt for it in a shade that you know works in your palette so you can sit back and enjoy all the compliments that will inevitably roll in.

No more panic buys

When I work with clients I give them a set of guidelines to work with to help them make purchase decisions that:

  1. Flatter their colouring and body shapes
  2. Express their signature style in a way they feel comfortable and confident with
  3. Ensures they get maximum wear out of EVERY item
  4. Guarantees they accept nothing less than feeling FABULOUS in every item they buy and wear

It might sound a bit heavy, but my clients LOVE these guidelines and tell me they find it easier to happily walk away from items they know aren’t right for them. There’s no more ‘it’ll do’ or ‘oh it’s a bargain’ – they know EXACTLY what they’re looking for and if it doesn’t make the cut it isn’t coming home with them.

No more saving it for best

SO many of my clients have stunning items in their wardrobe that they have spent a fortune on but they never wear them. They’re generally dressier items that they just can’t see working for everyday.

With a professional perspective on how to style these types of items for everyday, those pieces can come into circulation so much more – more bang for your fashion buck plus the joy of wearing a beautiful piece of clothing on a regular basis.

I could go on and on but will save the rest for another day and leave you with this final thought…

Go to your wardrobe and roughly add up the cost of any items in there that you very rarely or never wear.

Approximately how much does that equate to over the past year, two years, three years?

Now consider that the information and advice a good personal stylist will impart to you during a 1-2-1 session will last you years and years and hopefully you’ll see why I genuinely see my services as a investment that will save you not only money in the long run, but also give you confidence and great pleasure in all aspects of your personal style.

Until next time

Anna xoxo
